About the treatment

Earlobe Reduction – When a Small Detail Needs to Be Brought Back into Balance

The earlobe is a small part of the ear, but it can still influence the overall appearance. Over time, the earlobe may become longer, lose firmness or change shape. This may be due to ageing, heavy earrings, previous procedures or natural anatomy.

At AGATA, earlobe reduction is not about changing the ear, but about refining the size and shape of the earlobe so that it fits naturally with the rest of the ear and the face.

Who may benefit from earlobe reduction?

The procedure may be suitable for enlarged or elongated earlobes, asymmetry between the two sides, or stretched holes in the earlobe caused by piercings or heavy jewellery.

The aim is to restore a more natural shape that harmonises with the rest of the ear.

During the consultation, the shape, size and symmetry of the earlobes are assessed, and the correction is planned individually.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and typically takes 45–60 minutes.

A precisely measured amount of excess tissue is removed, after which the earlobe is reshaped and sutured to improve its size, shape and symmetry.

The ear cartilage is not affected. The procedure is simple and performed on an outpatient basis, and you can return home shortly afterwards.

Recovery

After the procedure, mild swelling, tenderness and slight bruising may occur.

The sutures are usually removed after approximately 7 days. It is important to avoid pulling or tension on the earlobe during the healing period.

If new ear piercings are desired, it is best to wait until the scar tissue has matured and become stable. This is usually after around 3 months.

Are there risks?

All surgical procedures involve some degree of risk, but the complication rate following earlobe correction is low.

Minor oozing, asymmetry, temporary changes in sensation or thickened scar tissue may occur.

What can you expect from the result?

The result is usually long-lasting. When the size and shape of the earlobe are brought into better balance with the rest of the ear, the overall appearance becomes more harmonious without drawing unnecessary attention to the area.
