About the treatment
Upper Eyelid Surgery – Restoring Lightness to the Eyes
The eyes are often one of the first areas where signs of ageing become visible. Over time, the skin of the upper eyelids may lose elasticity and form a fold that can make the eyes appear heavier or more tired. In some patients, excess skin may also affect the field of vision.
At AGATA, the aim is not to change the shape of the eyes or your natural expression. The goal is to remove the heaviness that obscures the eyelid crease and restore a lighter, more open and natural appearance.
How is the procedure performed?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. The incision is placed within the natural eyelid crease, where the scar gradually becomes discreet over time. Depending on the individual anatomy, excess skin is removed, and if necessary, a small amount of muscle or prominent fat may also be reduced.
The procedure typically takes 45–60 minutes, and you can return home the same day.
If the eyebrow has also descended, we always assess whether a brow lift would create better balance than removing eyelid skin alone.
Recovery
Some swelling, bruising and mild irritation can be expected during the first few days. The sutures are usually removed after approximately one week, and most patients feel socially presentable again after 1–2 weeks.
The final result is typically assessed after around 3 months, once the tissues have fully settled.
Are there risks?
All surgical procedures involve some degree of risk, but the great majority of patients have an uncomplicated recovery. Swelling, bruising, irritation and temporary changes in sensation may occur during the healing period.
The scar lies within the natural eyelid crease and usually becomes gradually less noticeable over the following months.
What can you expect from the result?
The aim is a clearer, lighter and more rested appearance without changing your natural expression.
“The procedure does not change your expression – it simply removes the heaviness.”
