About the treatment

Facial Fat Transfer – Restoring Lost Volume and Balance

Facial ageing is not only about loose skin. Over time, many people lose volume in areas such as the cheeks, temples and around the eyes. This can make the face appear flatter or more hollow and create sharper transitions and shadows.

With facial fat transfer, your own fat is used to restore lost volume and re-establish the natural proportions of the face. The aim is not to create fullness for its own sake, but to restore structure, softness and balance.

Where can fat be used?

Fat transfer can be used in areas such as the cheeks, temples, under-eye area, jawline, chin and lips.

The treatment is always tailored to the individual facial shape and the degree of volume loss.

In patients who are also undergoing a facelift, fat transfer can be a valuable addition when volume loss is present. This allows us not only to reposition the tissues, but also to restore the softer contours that may have diminished over time.

How is the treatment performed?

A small amount of fat is harvested from a suitable area of the body and carefully prepared before being injected in small amounts into the areas where volume is lacking.

The fat is placed precisely beneath the skin and within the appropriate tissue layers to restore soft, natural transitions between the different areas of the face.

In the face, a significant proportion of the transferred fat can provide a long-lasting result. It is therefore important to work precisely and conservatively so that overcorrection is avoided.

Recovery

After fat transfer, swelling, tenderness and bruising may occur both in the face and in the area from which the fat was harvested.

Initially, the treated areas may appear fuller than the final result. The swelling gradually subsides, and the result becomes more natural as the tissues settle.

Are there risks?

All surgical treatments involve some degree of risk, but the great majority of patients have an uncomplicated recovery.

Swelling, bruising, temporary unevenness or asymmetry may occur, and some of the transferred fat may be absorbed by the body. In some patients, a small additional treatment may therefore be needed at a later stage.

What can you expect from the result?

The goal is not to create a more “filled” face, but to restore lost volume in the right areas, allowing the facial proportions to appear softer and more harmonious again.

Fat transfer may also contribute to an improvement in skin quality, as fat tissue contains regenerative cells that support skin vitality and structure.
