Hybrid breast augmentation combines breast implants with fat transfer using your own fat.

The implant creates the primary shape and volume, while the fat is used to soften transitions, add extra soft-tissue coverage and improve the contour in areas where the implant alone cannot create the desired result.

Who May Benefit from Hybrid Breast Augmentation?

Hybrid breast augmentation may be particularly suitable for women who want breast implants but also need additional soft-tissue coverage or more precise shaping.

This may be relevant in cases of a wide cleavage, limited natural breast tissue, a thin soft-tissue layer over the chest, a risk of visible or palpable implant edges, minor breast asymmetry, or a wish for additional fullness in selected areas.

The fat is used as a natural supplement to the implant, allowing more precise refinement of the breast shape and transitions.

The Consultation – Shape, Volume and Soft-Tissue Coverage

During the consultation, we assess the shape and volume of the breasts, the width of the chest, skin thickness, the amount of natural breast tissue and any asymmetry.

We then consider the size, shape and position of the implant, as well as where fat transfer may improve the result.

At the same time, we assess which areas of the body are most suitable for harvesting fat, for example the abdomen, hips or thighs.

The aim is to plan the implant and fat transfer as one combined procedure, allowing the two techniques to complement each other.

Why Combine an Implant with Your Own Fat?

The breast implant creates the primary shape and volume, and the result depends partly on the implant’s size, profile and shape.

However, an implant cannot always create fullness exactly where the natural tissues are thin or where volume is lacking. This is particularly relevant in women with a wide cleavage, a thin fat layer or limited natural breast tissue, where the edge of the implant or the transition to the chest wall may become more visible or palpable.

In these situations, fat transfer can be a valuable addition.

The fat adds extra soft-tissue coverage in areas where natural padding is limited and can also be used to add volume where the implant alone cannot create the desired contour.

In this way, the fat can soften the transition between the implant and the chest wall, reduce the visibility and palpability of implant edges, create more fullness and improve the cleavage, and help correct minor asymmetries.

Hybrid breast augmentation therefore combines the implant’s ability to create shape and volume with the fat’s ability to refine contours and soften transitions.

How is the Procedure Performed?

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia.

First, an appropriate amount of fat is harvested using gentle liposuction from one or more areas of the body where there is excess fat. The harvested fat is purified and prepared for transfer.

The fat is then injected in small amounts and thin layers into the areas of the breast where additional soft-tissue coverage, greater fullness or a softer transition is needed.

The fat transfer is performed before the implant is inserted. This makes it possible to add the required fullness and shape the breast precisely, while also reducing the risk of damaging or perforating the implant with the injection cannula.

Once the fat has been distributed satisfactorily, the breast implant is placed in the planned position.

In this way, the implant provides the primary shape and volume, while the fat helps to refine the contours, improve soft-tissue coverage and create a more natural transition to the chest wall.

Recovery

After surgery, the breasts may feel tight and tender, and swelling and bruising can occur.

There may also be swelling and tenderness in the areas where the fat has been harvested.

A supportive bra is worn after surgery, and the donor areas will often require compression following liposuction.

It is important to avoid unnecessary pressure on the breasts during the initial healing period, so the transplanted fat has the best possible conditions to establish a stable blood supply.

Smoking and Fat Survival

Smoking affects blood circulation and reduces the ability of the transplanted fat cells to survive.

For this reason, smoking should be avoided before and after surgery, so the transferred fat has the best possible conditions to establish itself.

Are There Risks?

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks.

With hybrid breast augmentation, the general risks associated with breast implants are combined with the risks that can occur after fat transfer.

These may include swelling, infection, asymmetry, partial loss of the transferred fat volume and minor irregularities in the donor areas.

What Can You Expect from the Result?

The aim of hybrid breast augmentation is to create volume and shape with the implant, and softness and refinement with your own fat.

The implant forms the basic shape of the breast, while the fat is used where additional soft-tissue coverage, extra fullness or a more natural transition is needed.

The result develops gradually as the swelling subsides, the implant settles into position, and the surviving fat becomes part of the surrounding tissue.

The aim is not only to achieve the desired fullness, but also for the breast to appear soft, harmonious and natural in relation to the rest of the body.
