Brazilian butt lift (BBL)

Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is body contouring where fat is liposuctioned from areas of excess and transferred to the buttocks for more volume and shape – often with a slimmer waist and softer hip curves. It is a two-in-one procedure without buttock implants.

Who is it for?

Suitable for lacking buttock volume/shape, wanting liposuction plus more posterior fullness, or asymmetry/indentations. Typically needs at least about 500 ml of donor fat. Smoking is a contraindication due to poorer fat survival. Max about 800 ml per buttock depends on build.

How it works

Done under general anaesthesia. Fat is harvested, purified and injected with focus on safe technique. Consultation determines whether there is enough fat for the desired contouring.

Risks

Risks may include bleeding, infection, swelling, pain, bruising, temporary numbness, partial fat absorption, asymmetry and scarring. Fat embolism is a very rare, serious risk – hence experienced techniques and careful planning.

Recovery and maintenance

Avoid direct pressure on the buttocks for about 2–3 weeks; a support cushion/prone rest is advised. Volume settles over about a year and follows weight.
