Breast augmentation with fat transfer

Breast augmentation with your own fat increases volume by moving fat from other body areas into the breasts. The method gives a natural look and avoids a foreign body. The result lasts if weight remains stable.

Who is it for?

Suitable if you have at least about 500 ml of donor fat, want typically up to one cup size per session, prefer no implants, or want to even out asymmetry. Less suitable with smoking, BMI over 30, a very lean body without donor fat, or a wish for more than about two cup sizes without multiple sessions.

How it works

The operation typically takes about 2 hours. Donor fat is liposuctioned, purified and injected evenly in layers into the breasts. Consultation also assesses need for a breast lift or further sessions. Mammography may be included when indicated.

Risks

Risks may include bleeding, infection, temporary swelling, volume loss with weight change, and cysts or calcifications in breast tissue. Breastfeeding is usually unaffected. Larger studies do not indicate increased breast cancer risk with this method.

Recovery and maintenance

A soft supportive bra is typically worn for 4–6 weeks. Avoid massage and pressure on the breasts for the first 4 weeks. Not smoking before and after is important for fat survival. Work often resumes after 2–4 weeks. Volume settles over months up to about a year.
