Hybrid breast augmentation

Hybrid breast augmentation combines a silicone implant with fat transfer. The implant provides structure and volume; the fat softens contour, evens asymmetry and improves the upper pole. The method is also used at exchange, where a smaller implant is supplemented with your own fat.

Who is it for?

Relevant if you want a more natural feel than implant alone, have some donor fat, or need older implants exchanged. Less suitable with smoking, BMI over 30 or very hard daily activity that increases fat loss.

How it works

The procedure typically takes 2–2½ hours. Donor fat is liposuctioned; the implant pocket is prepared and fat is injected in layers. Incisions are often in the breast fold. The implant is often placed under the muscle, especially in lean patients. Drains and overnight stay may be included. Sleeping on your back is advised for the first two weeks.

Risks

Risks include those of both implant and fat transfer: bleeding, infection, capsular contracture, temporary fat volume loss, asymmetry and scarring. The operation is more complex than standard augmentation, but risk is not necessarily higher – it is reviewed individually.

Recovery and maintenance

Healing is typically 2–4 weeks with limited physical activity. Fat-related volume settles over about a year and follows weight. Implants are often exchanged after 10–15 years when needed.
